Why Do You Cry Lord? (Poem #15)

What is hurting your heart?
Why do you cry Lord?
Why are you troubled?
What can I do to help?

I feel God's hurt
It comes from down deep
I can't explain the pain

When my Father cries
It's from deep within
Sorrow wells up
And I'm stuck wondering why

Is it from the church?
Or possibly from me?
Is it from the hurt of others?
Why do you cry Lord?

I asked those questions
Wanting to understand your sorrow
And an answer you gave

Your own children don't want you
Your own children don't hear you
Your own children don't know you

They live on their daily lives
Their daily routines
They seek to be higher in status
Thinking rules will save them

They build their own castles
Their own temples before you
They sacrifice time and energy
Because religion says so

From their hearts they desire more
More money, more members, more temples

They want to be in charge of others
While their own homes are in chaos
They want to rule over people
So they can set their own rules and regulations

They store up their treasures on earth
Mountains of gold, certificates and metals

Their idols are placed in front view
To stand and watch over others
They say, to not bow down to their god
Is an attack on God's Holy people

They raise their hands in worship
To the idols of their hearts and hands
Sometimes falling to their knees
To manipulate God into listening

But God weeps even more
Saying to toss the idols away
God sees but can't enter
For their hearts are closed off from Him

They let demons push Jesus away
Out of the church, into a box of religion
This was set up by the hands of God's own people

They love attention on themselves
And on their children as well
They do not notice the sin
They have slowly created

Why, oh why God do they do these things?
Please Lord, help them understand
They turned away from you
And away from your old ways

"I'm sorry" I said
As I weeped bitterly
"I'm sorry that they don't know you
And that they don't love each other
I'm sorry they don't know you
And your ways of loving-kindess
I'm sorry" i cried
Letting out the strong emotions

I've asked the Lord to forgive them many times in the past
But I know He can only forgive
Once they Repent in their hearts

These people need love
They have never known it

But if it helps to comfort your heart Lord
I promise to always serve you
Me and my family will serve the Lord forever
We will serve the One True God
Of our first parents
